Bill Gubrud

Executive Director and Chairman of the Board

Message from the Executive Director

“Our goal is to develop the National Gay and Lesbian Sports Hall of Fame into more than just a sporting event/sports organization. We strive to make the LGBT sporting community more visible not only for awareness, but to show support to those peers, organizations and allies who have demonstrated the courage to stand up for LGBT athletics. The Hall of Fame was created to encourage those in the sporting community to serve as role models for peers and future generations of LGBT youth. just other people but to the players themselves, so they can gain the confidence to come out as a player and be themselves and know that there is a legion of fans who support them.”

Mr. Gubrud, founder of the Gay and Lesbian Sports Hall of Fame, is a lifelong sports fan.  He began his career working for various publications geared towards the gay community.  Gubrud now owns and operates a marketing firm specializing in special events and promotions.  In addition to the National Gay and Lesbian Sports Hall of Fame, Gubrud serves as the Executive Director for Out at Wrigley, the largest Gay Day at a major league sporting event.  Gubrud works closely with the Chicago Cubs and numerous philanthropic causes serving the gay and lesbian community.


Gary G. Chichester

Mr. Chichester, a hospitality industry veteran, has produced events and corporate gatherings for some of the world’s most exclusive sporting events including the Kentucky Derby and the Masters Golf Tournament. Chichester has co-chaired the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame for over 20 years and lends his skills to numerous organizations to raise funds for the fight against HIV/AIDS. Chichester served for 23 years on the Chicago Commission on Human Relations.


Israel Wright

Mr. Wright serves as Executive Director of the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame. Wright’s philanthropic experience spans a number of organizations including the Federation of Gay Games, Team Chicago Athletics, and an array of community organizations dedicated to numerous LGBT causes. Wright, a Loyola University graduate, is a small-business owner whose photography has been featured in numerous publications, websites, and exhibits. He is excited to bring his organizing and management skills to the National Gay & Lesbian Hall of Fame.


Jackie Weinberg

Creative Director

Ms.Weinberg is a graphic artist who’s been creating commercial and fine art since the 1990s. As a small-business owner, she formulates innovative and memorable branding imagery for a wide range of clients as diverse as multi-national liquor corporations to many local companies and organizations including Equality Illinois and Healing Tyler/Nephrotic Syndrome Foundation. She also serves as a board member, sponsor and the official designer of the nation’s largest LGBT professional sporting event, Out at Wrigley. Jackie is excited to bring her design skills to the National Gay & Lesbian Hall of Fame as the Creative Director and serve as a founding member of the board. Weinberg is a graduate of Western Michigan University with degrees in business, marketing, advertising, and art. Jackie is an avid sports fan and loves her Detroit sports teams.


Nicholas G. Mauro

Director of Finance

Mr. Mauro is delighted to serve as the Director of Finance for the National Gay and Lesbian Sports Hall of Fame. He is most excited about the positive impact that the organization will have on high school and grade school athletes. Having coached youth football for 20 years with his father Lou and brother Phil, Mauro thinks that the Gay and Lesbian Sports Hall of Fame will have a tremendous impact on youth sports. Serving 4 years on the board of a youth football program as Coach Coordinator and 13 years as a Financial Analyst/Financial Adviser, Nick hopes to utilize his leadership and financial know-how to the Hall of Fame. In his free time, Mauro enjoys spending time with his nephews, umpiring high school and little league baseball games and helping international students learn English.


Andy Schweickert

Mr. Schweickert is a lifelong sports enthusiast.  Having worked in a variety of marketing capacities professionally, Schweickert brings a cross section of branding, public relations, creative and events management to the the Gay and Lesbian Sports Hall of Fame.  Schweickert has produced campaigns and events targeting in both niche and vast markets all across the globe.  Schweickert received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois – Urbana in Sports Management and his Masters degree from DePaul University in Public Relations and Advertising.  In chi spare time, Schweickert plays on numerous recreational sports leagues and serves on a scholarship committee for the aviation industry.
